Gemma is originally from Guernsey Island and Cobus is a South African. They were both working for the same company in Guernsey and met at a work function. Gemma told me that at that stage Cobus was a bit home sick and she chatted to him in Afrikaans…and that’s how it all began.
Apparently they have a special place close to a light house they walk to every day and one day on their walk Cobus decided to propose. Gemma and Cobus booked me for their wedding in April 2010, but they were in Cape Town recently to sort out all the final arrangements for their wedding and I did an engagement shoot for them on the beach of Campsbay.
As you know I ran a free wedding give away any where in the world. And in just one week I had 118 entries!
Claudia arrived with 3 suitcases of clothes and accessories. At first I was a bit overwhelmed, but then I saw the most dress designed by Kobus Dippenaar and I knew that was it! I almost did the entire shoot with that dress. It just suited Claudia perfectly!
Claudia told me the story: “The actual story started on the day before my 21st birthday. Ricky and I were on the Greek Island of Santorini, Greece, aboard an 18th century style-like boat cruising into the sunset, listening to the soft music of a saxophone, myself and Ricky were romantically watching the beautiful sunset…
It started out as a normal Sunday morning. I had the Saturday off and Sunday was going to be 2d day off, chilling at home, or so I though… But then my phone rang, on the other side was Sacha Waldman, a well known New York based photographer. At first I had no idea what was going on and then he explained to me that his fiancy and he were in Cape Town and they decided that they were going to get married… today
What a privilege for a little girl to still have all her grandparents! I arrived at Margeaux’s house and all the grandparents were waiting in the lounge. It was a big occasion. Photo day with little Helen-Marie!
Two weekends ago Adri and I drove through to Lizelle’s family farm in Caledon. Lizelle invited us for a delicious South Afican braai (barbecue). We sat in the sun, drove around on the farm and just chilled out.
As you know I specialize in wedding and portrait photography and I’m not quite sure if “corporate stock photography” falls into that category, but I’m always up for a challenge!
Candle lit dinner with banquet style tables and photos in magical gardens are what Janelle and Bruce had in mind! And it happened just like that! Janelle and Bruce currently live in the UK, but they decided to come home and spend their big day with friends and family on Langverwagt estate.
One of the things that really stood out for me on the day was the “special friends” Janelle asked to walk in before her and her bridesmaids. What a great idea! As a bride you probably can’t ask all your close friends to be a bridesmaid, but Janelle still made them feel special, by giving them a part of the ceremony. Beautiful!
What is more yummy than chocolate? Kanya Hunt phoned me a few weeks ago and asked if I was up for a challenge… She wanted to do a shoot around chocolate.
