Amoné & her cute dress

One of the cutest baby shoots I’ve ever done, must have been Amone’s baby shoot. Her mom, Jene, bought the most gorgeous red dress with a big red bow for her head. It was just to cute! When Jene mailed me to say they will be in Stellenbosch in September, I knew it was going to be another stylish event, and yes, it surely was!

Amoné was dressed in a beautiful white dress, made by her aunt and on head was a feathered headpiece. I had a vision of what the photos should look like, but forgetting I’ll be negotiating with a 18th month old, I lost the bet. She was all over the place, running, doing her own thing and at the end we had to buy her over with a bag of mini marshmallows. And after the marshmallows were gone, a warm bath was the only thing that could calm her down :) But at the end I got some cute photos :)

Lesson learned, a 18 month old is much more clever than three grown ups. :)

It was probably one of the craziest weeks this year! I shot a wedding on the Friday, again on the Saturday and the Monday at 5:30am I was up and on my way to Johannesburg, only for the day. It’s the first time ever, where I was flown up to do a shoot for only one day :)

Hannari, the daughter emailed me and asked if I’d be willing to come to Johannesburg, to do a family shoot. She explained that there were quite a few special things, 1. Her parents celebrate their 30th anniversary this year. 2. All the children were going to be home (in the house they all grew up in) for only 4 days, as Hannari lives in London. 3. Their grandmother of 93 years old was going to visit for a few days. And that is truly special!

I was delighted to do a shoot for such a friendly and welcoming family! Each one of the family members had a few special items they wanted to document. The shoot was informal, fun and joyful!

Dad loves plants. He makes his own flour and bakes yummy bread. He also has a keen interest in photography. Mom loves flowers. She has a home office and loves pretty things. They just renovated their home and it looks gorgeous. The youngest is a keen sportsman and loves his computer games. Hannari is the only daughter, she plays the piano and she is the fashion and trend setter. She also loves her family dearly! The eldest is a writer and might study further in Europe. Granny is 93. She is the scrabble champion and she loves reading her paper.

This little girl was definitely not impressed with the camera staring at her. First she stared back and then luckily later on she started smiling :) She’s such a cutie pie!

Adel and Ernst live just around the corner from me. Last week they asked me to do a shoot of their family and so we had some fun around their house.

Note to self: When photographing kids, they hardly ever do what you want them to do, so just go with the flow and shoot… :) The natural ones are the best anyway :)

There is something magical about babies. I look at their feet and eyes and ears and I just realize what a miracle they are. Dino and his mom visited me the other day to do his first photo shoot. What a cutie pie!

While in London I had the privilege to photograph little Amoné with her parents. This little one absolutely earned an “awesome baby” prize! She is just sooo adorable! She pulled faces and smiled for a full hour and a half. I’m sure that is a record! And my favourite of all…her thick, curly hair!

Whenever iaan and I want to go out for dinner the first place that come to our mind is Cognito Restaurant in Stellenbosch. It’s by far the best combination of good food, great service and a lovely atmosphere.

One of the owners, Diani had a little girl a few months ago and so I had the privilege to photograph her. Isn’t she just totally adorable!!

If you love “old school cool”, you’d want everything in Lucy’s house. Lucy lives in Wellington and when I did their first family shoot I thought I was going to faint, just because she has so many cool props around her house. Lucy and her husband, Duan bought a old farm house and renovated it. The house is surrounded with the most beautiful pots, chairs and everything else a photographer could dream of.

This year Lucy asked me to come and shoot her sister and together with all 3 kids. So we played around and had some fun..

Obet-Eden | New Life

Alexé and Raynie are close friends of ours and their little baby boy, Obet-Eden was born in April. Iaan and I arrived at their home and I literally had to stop the tears from flowing. Life is so beautiful! I held him in my arms, only 5 days old and it was the most incredible feeling I could describe. A new life…a new hope…a new adventure ahead. Congratulations to Raynie and Alexé on your beautiful baby boy!
