Over the easter weekend, iaan and I flew to Durban to shoot Salome & Kyle’s wedding at Zimbali. Iaan and I arrived on the airport and with very little knowledge of that Durban looks like or where everything is, we picked up our rental car and that’s where the journey began. It’s so strange to drive around in a place where you have no idea where anything is. So we had to rely 100% on my little Garmin GPS. To be honest, I don’t think he felt so familiar in Durban either, but after a few random turn we finally got onto the N2 and headed to Zimbali to meet Salome and Kyle. Salome & Kyle are both originally from Durban, but currently live in the UK.

So today I’m going to ask you to do something for me…I need some “vote love” :) I just came across this competition and I decided to cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best. But then I realized crossing fingers and toes is not going to do the job…I need your help. I need some LOVE! As you probably read in my previous post, I had the privilege to host my second workshop a few weeks ago. The most exciting part for most of the girls was doing the shoot. The theme for this shoot was a vintage, country style shoot. Everything came together so beautifully, but there would have been no way I could have pulled it off if it wasn’t for all the amazing service providers that helped me out!

On the 25th of March I hosted my second workshop. It was a fun two days with lots of photo-talk! The idea in general with my workshops are informal (but pretty) get togethers where I share and create a friendly environment to ask questions and learn. When I hosted my first workshop I decided to keep the groups small. By doing this I can spend time with every person and answer individual questions.

Just incase you’re a bride or a potential client, let me just clarify this post: I’m a photographer, but I’m also a girl that enjoys life. I blog about my work, but I also blog about my life. I blog about the things I go through and the way I think. For me work and life is all intertwined, there is no separation. My life is part of my job and my job part of my life. I am my job and my job is me.

I still remember Sofia’s call. She phoned all the way from Hong Kong! It was almost exactly a year ago. She said she loved my style and that she and Graeme will be getting married in Elgin on the 20th of March 2010. I was excited. I love shooting at new venues and especially ones that are in cute places like Elgin.

Sofia and Graeme are originally from South Africa, but have been living abroad for the past few years. They started out in the UK and then moved to Hong Kong where they currently live.

I have this really bad habit to wake up in the morning and checking my emails on my iphone before I get out of bed. Every morning I have the same question. Why do you do that? You should rather wake up, get ready for the day and then check emails when you walk into the office. But for some reason checking emails in bed prepares me for my day ahead. I know it sounds strange, but I like to plan ahead and know what’s coming. By glancing through my inbox I know what to expect before I walk into the office. This morning there was a HUGE smile on my face!

Kaycee is one of those super friendly bubbly people! Our first contact was via email. She found my blog through Photo.net and sent me a super sweet email to tell me how much she loved my work. Those always make me smile and she totally made my day! I couldn’t believe that anyone from New York was actually looking at my work!

Since then Kaycee has been following my work and claims to be one of my biggest fans. When she heard I was coming to the USA she booked a couple shoot with me in New York.

We met in the lobby of our hotel and it was like I knew her. So strange when you finally meet someone you’ve been in contact with for some time, but never physically met before. Kaycee couldn’t stop laughing and made me feel at ease straight away. We headed to Times Square to take a few pics and then headed downtown with the subway. After the shoot we ended up in Starbucks talking about Lightroom, editing, marketing and everything else, over a cup of steaming Vanilla Latte’s :)

Tamryn was probably one of my first fans, she actually claims she is my biggest fan :) Tamryn is also an aspiring photographer and that always makes me a teeny tiny bit nervous. I mean, who wouldn’t be :) But the nerves calmed down the moment I saw those gorgeous blue shoes by Christian Louboutin! Oh man, I don’t know why, but beautiful shoes just gets me all excited! An then when Tamryn slipped into her dress, she looked like she walked right out of a magazine!
