Mention the word copyright amongst photographers and you open a can of worms. Well, before I mention THE word :) I just need to make sure you understand the reason for this blog post. I love it when my photos are featured or published (who doesn’t??). I love it when people link to my blog. But what I [...]
It all began when I realized that photography can be a really lonely industry. It’s you, your camera and your computer. You’re not sure where to start, what to do and choosing the right lens freaks you out! And when you phone a friend and she really doesn’t know what you’re talking about :) So I decided things needed to change. We all need friends in the photography industry…You need people so support you, encourage you and help you grow. In the past few years, I’ve been very fortunate to become friends with some really talented photographer, but most of all, awesome people!
When I started out as a wedding photographer I wished there could be a place where I could meet other photographers. A photographer’s life can be very lonely. It’s you, your camera and your computer. You hardly have interaction with other people on a day to day basis, especially when you’re starting out. I believe this this can change. There are hundreds of photographers out there that want to make friends, but few know where to go.
Last week Friday Iaan and I hosted our first workshop together. In our relationship Iaan is the information consumer and I’m the practical one. He likes the knowing, I like the doing. And together we make quite a good team :)
The workshop was hosted at our favourite restaurant Coginto in Stellenbosch. The topics covered was about one of the things Iaan and I love: Social Media. I can’t imagine my life without it!
As you probably know by now, Iaan and I loooove the internet! We love new technology and embrace it with open arms! Yet for many, this is a daunting and intimidating topic.
Iaan and I want to invite you to attend our first KIKI social media workshop!
This workshop is open to anyone. Not just photographers. This workshop is ideally for anybody interested in knowing how to use social media effectively in a business. If you’re asking what is Twitter? How do I use it? Then this one is for you :) If you’re a internet & twitter guru, this one is unfortunatley not for you.
It’s been a long time since I posted something personal. I love blogging and sharing thoughts. And when I do most of them will probably be on one of the following topics: my family, business, photography, pretty things or pretty places. So if you’re a bride, I suggest you skip this one and jump over to my recent weddings, but if you’re a business owner, start out photographer or have any interest in my random thoughts, enjoy the post :)
Some of you might know about the KIKI outreach program I started earlier this year. In conjunction with The Viewfinder Project, we aimed to teach these kids to see differently. For the past few months I and some awesome photographer with very big hearts have been spending time in Kayamandi to teach the kids more about photography. We taught them the basics of ISO, aperture and shutter speed.
This weekend is our exhibition and we’d love all the support we can get. The exhibition will be at Kuyasa centre in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch on Sunday 17 October, between 14:00 and 16:00. We’d love to see you there!
For months and months iaan and I have been talking and planning and working, but today is the day of the softs launch of KIKI. We are super excited and if you’re a photographer, this is one site you want to visit. For now we’re pre-selling some of my Adobe Lightroom Presets…but this video will tell you a bit more about the full extend of KIKI.

This season I’m kicking off my blog with a fun and exciting event. The 2010 Cape Town Wedding Photographer and Industry Party! Woop woop!
Last year my friend Monica Dart, together with Ian Mitchinson organized a photographer’s party in Cape Town. The room was seriously packed and it was great to hang and meet new people. So this year, they decided to go even bigger and organize a great venue & band for the night! The party is open to any photographers as well as wedding industry friends!
I can’t believe it’s almost a month ago that I ran the London Funshop! Wow, time flies when you’re organizing a wedding :) The London Funshop was an amazing time for me. I got to know 10 awesome girls and had some shooting fun with them in the east end of London. This was my first international workshop and I hope to have more in the future. I wanted to theme this workshop with red details, because when I think of London, I think of red busses and red postboxes.
