When I started out as a wedding photographer I wished there could be a place where I could meet other photographers. A photographer’s life can be very lonely. It’s you, your camera and your computer. You hardly have interaction with other people on a day to day basis, especially when you’re starting out. I believe that this can change. There are hundreds of photographers out there that want to make friends, but few know where to go.
In the past few years, Facebook has been a huge help in building relationships and a community under photographers, but still many of us have never met in person.
When iaan and I worked on the concept of KIKI, (website coming soon…) we decided we have to add a real human element to it. We had to make sure that, even though the main concept would be to build KIKI online, people should get to know each other in person. So we decided to start KIKI meet-ups.
The idea behind a meet-up is to get photographers together in a certain location and have a coffee and something to eat, chat, introduce yourself and get to know each other. Build real relationships. KIKI is for photographers who want to share and learn and believe that sharing and being open to other photographer is important. In the words of Jasmine Star, no egos allowed :) KIKI is for anyone interested in photography, whether amateur or pro!

So far we’ve had KIKI London meet-ups, as well as Johannesburg meet-ups. Last year August was the first one in London and those photographers have become such great friends! They help each other out, support one another and share what they know. I know it’s made a huge change in their lives and now it’s finally time to start the KIKI Western Cape meet-up.
