Let’s catch up over coffee

Before you sit down, I suggest you go and grab a cup of coffee / tea or a cup of yummy hot chocolate, because this post is 90 % text and 10 % photos :) If you haven’t guessed yet, I was on holiday for the past 2 weeks. The blog was quite, because 1. I didn’t really have internet and 2. I forced myself not to think about blogging, but then on the other hand I really itched to start typing, editing and saying happy 2010!

My holiday was relaxed with a bit of excitement. I was spending time with family and friends on the coast and I read a book (I’m actually on half way) The ‘excitement’ part was when iaan and I saw a snake on our jog, just to put it out there, those are probably the things I hate the most! Worst is we saw another one that dat after! Welcome to Africa! :)

Since my last blog post so many things have happened and I thought i’ll just jump back into 2009 for this post to bring you up to date and show you a sneak peek of what happened along the way.

17 – 21 December I shot 4 weddings in 5 days! That week was definitely the craziest week of 2009. But it was fun all the way. Yes sure it was hectic and very tiring, but definitely worth it! On Wednesday 17th of December I shot Ryan Graham’s (a phenomenal wedding photographer in Cape Town) wedding. I must admit when Ryan and Lee booked me for their wedding it was quite a daunting idea. Shooting another wedding photographer’s wedding is very intimidating, but the couple was so relaxed and the wedding was totally unconventional, which made for some spectacular shots.

Now just to fill you in on some behind the scene stuff. While i was shooting the wedding Adri and Nastassja my 2 friends/assistants picked up Henry Chen and his girlfriend Nancy from the airport. Henry is a wedding photographer from Los Angeles. We met online and after Henry got booked for a wedding in Pretoria, South Africa he contacted me again and asked if he could second shoot a few weddings with me in December. It worked out perfectly as it was my craziest week ever! And here Henry was offering to second shoot with me. What a blessing! Check out Henry’s blog for his beautiful work and also keep an eye out for the SA weddings he shot.

Ok, so back to that week…on Thursday morning (after Lee and Ryan’s wedding) I met Henry over breakfast for the first time and then we were on our way to the Jacobsbaai on West Coast of Cape Town, to shoot the legendary Llewellyn and Getha’s wedding. Their wedding was a festive get together of friends and family all around the world. If I remember correctly people came from 5 different countries to share in their wedding celebration. What a privilege!

Then on friday Henry and i shot a small intimate wedding on Hidden Valley estate. The Johannesburg couple Cari and Lawrence decided that they will be tying the knot in the vineyards of Stellenbosch.

On sunday i had an off day and met Henry and Nancy for some drinks on Camps Bay boulevard and on Monday Henry and I shot Liesl and Greg’s wedding at the 12 Apostles Hotel in Cape Town.

Wow, now that’s a mouthful! Well after those shoots I packed my bags and hit the road with my sister to meet up with my parents (and did i mention how excited i am that they are now finally back in SA!). We had a wonderful Christmas in Clarens the Free State with family and then i spent a week in Herrold’s Bay on the Garden Route. And that’s my update :)

I know this blog post is not like my regular ones, but it’s a new year and I’m ready for new things :) Also I wanted to end 2009 off well, because they say, the way you end one year is how one starts the next! May this be a great year for you and may all your dreams come true!
