Saturday I had the privilege to shoot Anli & Roan’s wedding at the new venue Molenvliet in Stellenbosch. The couple booked me for an engagement shoot a few months ago and it made such a difference on the wedding day! The interaction between photographer and client was so much more relaxed and I’d definitely encourage couples to look at this option. I have said this before, but by doing an engagement shoot you not only get used to the camera, but you also give your photographer the opportunity to get to know you.

After doing some decor shots at Molenvliet I drove to Mooikelder in Paarl, where Anli got dressed. The ceremony was held in the “Strooidak” church in the main road of Paarl. After the ceremony we stopped by a field filled with long grass for some photos.

The rest of the vineyard photos were taken on the beautiful Molenvliet estate. This was my first wedding at Molenvliet, but I have to commend the team for their outstanding service! This is definitely a venue to check out if you’re planning on getting married.

FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS:

I recently purchased the newControl TL Pocket wizard set and tried them out on the shoot. In general I’m not a photographer that likes to shoot with flash or extra lights, I prefer my really fast lenses and natural light. But then on the other side you loose a lot of detail in your skies, backgrounds etc, when you over expose to get the light right on the couple. I used a flash with some of the couple shots and I’m still deciding whether I like the intense look or the more natural look. What do you prefer?

The pocket wizards works miracles at the reception! I’d encourage all photographers to look into investing on a pair of these. In no means am I a professional when it comes to off camera flash, but as they say: Practice makes perfect :)
