The shoot was originally scheduled for Sunday, but Hermien was a bit sick after the rain and wind on their wedding on Saturday, so we rescheduled for Monday. We decided to go to Clifton beach in Cape Town. We started on the rocks and moved over to a cool rustic wall.

I never new, but apparently you need a permit to shoot there! A random guy come up to us and wanted to give me a fine, but he had his facts totally messed up. Firstly he said it was R300, but I refused. There wasn’t any notice boards saying “photos prohibited” and then he changed his story to R400 per person… so next time I’ll have to go to the municipal buildings…Does anyone else know about this? Can you get a permit for a year or is it for every shoot? I think it’s ridiculous. We didn’t bother anyone and it is public grounds..anyway.. Here are my favourite ones…

I love the last three and the shot of couple sitting in front of textured wall-very cute. There is no permit that I know of that lasts a year.

Fotos lyk stunning. Strande in SA is publieke grond. Dit behoort aan niemand. Ek dink die ou het n vet kans gevat.

Never heard anything like that, sounds like he was taking a chance.
What absolutely stunning photos and so relaxed!

Wow, nice location! Love the photos, the textures on the wall. I know for some locations you need a permit but this one is upsert. Maybe is was a con-artist trying to get some money out of you. But anyway, great work!

    Baie Geluk Miena & Gerhard,

    Totally gorgeous!

I remember when the ODP crowd has their outing a number of years back, they arranged for a city permit.

Consider that Table Mountain National Parks are getting sticky with photographers at Silvermine…I’m not entirely surprised.

You can always challenge the ticket…I’m sure they’d throw it out of court.

    Absolutely stunning photos!!!
I am getting married on the beach in March next year and you need to get a permit to get married on the beach, maybe they thought you were having the actual ceremony?? This would probably be the best place to ask

I did styling jobs in Cape Town a while ago. I have worked on shoots on Clifton beach and I am almost sure you need a permit for most public areas (surely clifton, Gordon’s Bay etc.). This is only for photos that will be published, but I dont think it applies for private pictures (like wedding photos). That guy was crazy!
