Earlier this year I got a phone call form my first flate mate Thea, she was getting married! Last weekend I shot her wedding in Durban. It was a great treat for me to shoot somewhere else for a change. Durban is so different to Cape Town and it was a brand new challenge for me. At first I was quite nervous, to shoot another photographers wedding is very scary! But at the same time I was very excited!

We drove around on Friday and found this great old building that use to be a hospital. It was in a terrible condition (great for photos!!), so we decided this would be our backdrop for the photo shoot. It was very rustic and had lots of details on the walls.

They got married in a small chapel on Gath’s primary school grounds, whereafter the reception was held at an awesome little restaurant called the market in Durban.

GREAT EXTRA STORY: The coolest story (apart from the getting married part :)) was the story Thea told me about the guy they asked to play some live music, while everyone was eating. This guy’s name is Sipho. He plays on the streets during the weeks and they just loved his music, so they asked him a few months ago to come and play at their wedding. They checked up on him every week or 2, as he had no cellphone or watch…He apparently plays on the same spot every day.

On Friday Garth was waiting for him, as he wanted him to stay over that night (to make sure he’s at the wedding on Saturday) But he wasn’t there..so they came home very disappointed. But a few hours after they got a call to say he was now waiting for them. He was apparently mugged in the week and he’s guitar was stolen, therefore made no money during the week so he couldn’t pay taxi fee to meet them…this just killed me. This guy played the most amazing music that night! And he got a new shirt, pair of trousers, shoes and some cash for the night. I wish someone could help him to start playing at live events. He was really great!
